For years now, social media has provided businesses with a fantastic avenue to reach a wider audience on a daily basis. Yet, incredibly, according to research, only 60% of UK businesses actually have a presence on the leading social media networks, such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
Now, you would be forgiven for thinking that setting up a company account on the various social media networks would be standard practice, especially in 2018, but it turns out that an incredible 40% of businesses in the UK are failing to take advantage of this incredible online marketing tool.
The research, which was published by company formation experts Turnerlittle, also highlights a vast difference between larger companies and smaller ones. In total, 90% of businesses that have over one thousand employees have a strong social media presence, whereas a staggering 51% of smaller businesses fail to promote themselves on social media, or at least choose not to highlight their social media links within their own website.
A similar trend is shown when it comes to content creation, as over 80% of larger companies regularly upload blog articles onto their website, whereas just 39% of smaller businesses produce fresh content for their site.
Of course, there could be a fairly simple explanation for this. Simply put, the more employees that a business has, the more likely they are to have the tools to manage their social media accounts on a daily basis, whilst the same applies to creating content for their website. Further to this, larger companies will, undoubtedly, have a far greater marketing budget available to them, again making life far easier when it comes to promoting themselves effectively through a greater number of online avenues.
That said, if smaller business do not have the in-house capability to efficiently build their social media presence, or create regularly blog articles, there is always the option to outsource the work to specialist companies that can take care of this for them.
So, why should your business care about social media?
1. Collectively, the top social media networks can provide around 30% of a website’s total monthly visits.
2. It has been projected that by 2020, companies will spend a huge $27 billion on social media advertising and management.
3. Over 300 million companies have created accounts on LinkedIn.
4. 77% of Twitter users are more likely to recommend a brand when their tweets have been replied to.
5. Facebook now sees 8 billion average daily video views.
