Google Increases Search Dominance

As widely expected, Google have once again increased their dominance on the search engine market with usage figures in the US climbing from 65.98% in December 2007 to 72.07% in December 2008.

A similar increase during 2009 would result in Google taking hold of around 80% of the market.

This increase of 6.09% has been accumulated from the likes of Yahoo, MSN, and ASK, who have all subsequently received an overall reduction in their usage during 2008 when compared to the previous year.

Yahoo found it very tough going in 2008, dropping 3% from the previous December. This meant that they had to settle for a 19.16% share of the search engine market, whilst MSN dropped down to 5.56% from just over 7%, and Ask.com grabbed just over 3% of all usage last month.

Overall Figures for 2008:

1. Google - 69.48%

2. Yahoo - 19.16%

3. MSN - 5.88%

4. ASK - 3.80%
