Yahoo! and Micrsoft Deal Delayed

Yahoo and Microsoft’s proposed search deal has been delayed owing to protracted negotiations over some of its finer details, the former has revealed.

The two companies first announced the ten-year deal at the end of July. However, Yahoo has said it has taken longer to come to agreements on certain undisclosed aspects than originally anticipated

The deal will see Yahoo sell search ads under Microsoft’s fledgling Bing brand, which Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz believes could bring in an extra $500m (£305.2m) in annual revenues for the company.

But a statement released by Yahoo over the weekend said negotiations are going on longer than expected.

It read: “Given the complex nature of this transaction, there remain some issues that need additional clarity and definitive details. Both companies are optimistic that we will be able to close this deal by early 2010.”

The deal is being assessed by regulators but in recent weeks it has gained the support of US advertising body the American Association of Advertising Agencies, while Google co-founder Sergey Brin has said Yahoo’s exit from the search market is a “shame” for the industry
