Liquid Leather Case Study:
Background:
Liquid Leather are one of the biggest providers of leather cleaning products in the UK.
Established in 1972, the company offers a wide range of cleaning solutions for leather furniture, car leathers, and leather clothing.

The Challenge:
In early 2009 Liquid Leather contacted us because they had fallen behind their online competitors on the major search engines. In addition to this their website was over ten years old and was desperately selling the company, their products, and their reputation short.
Due to this the team at Liquid Leather wanted a new website that would help bring them right back up to the times. They also wanted a website that would work well from a sales perspective as increased online orders was a must.
In the past Liquid Leather had used other website optimisation companies but received very little success so they were slightly dubious when we told them that we could help them to achieve their online potential.
As a result we were clearly told that they wanted their website to feature prominently on the first page of Google for all of their targeted keywords.
The Strategy:
We went straight to work on initial designs for the new website, which would improve Liquid Leather's online image and bring a greater number of product sales, and within just a few weeks our designs had been approved and the building process began.
Once the website was finished we went to work on the onsite optimisation to ensure that the site was completely search engine friendly. This meant giving the search engines access to all pages throughout the site, offering a good keyword density, and providing high quality content.
One of the main areas that we focus on when it comes to optimisation is keyword research. We only want to target the very best keyword terms that would drive visitors into the website, as this is more likely to lead to sales. We decided that the most important terms to target on the site were 'Leather Cleaner' and 'Leather Care', therefore we set the site up to target these more forcefully than any other terms.
The Results:
The initial response to the website was extremely positive. The bounce rate on the site dropped significantly, the time that visitors were spending on the site was increasing, and most importantly the sales were coming in thick and fast.
In terms of the optimisation, this had an almost immediate impact. In just two months visitor levels jumped from 5,463 in May 2009 to 7,165 in July 2009 and the site kept on going from strength to strength. In July 2010, one year later, the site was reaching 11,832 visitors whilst in August 2011 the site gained a total of 18,688 visitors, an increase of +242% from when we first started our optimisation campaign.
Further to this though the Liquid Leather website is now found within the top 3 positions on Google for a vast range of product related keyword searches including 'Leather Care', 'Leather Cleaner', and many more. Overall organic visitor levels have increased substantially since early 2009 with figures jumping from 3,360 in May 2009 to 13,248 in August 2011.
The reason for this improvement was due to the massively increased positions on Google and the other major search engines, and with positions increasing all of the time then we expect Liquid Leather to be succeeding online for a long time to come
