Background:
Green Valley Trading Co. began life in 1999 as a high-street retail outlet in Solihull in the West Midlands. Right from the beginning of the business the need to sell products online was recognised and an e-commerce website was set up to offer some of the product ranges to customers outside the local area.
Over the next few years the website became an increasingly important part of the business and the decision was made to close the high-street outlet in order to focus entirely on online sales.
Website visitor numbers and online sales continued to increase steadily over the next few years, but there was clearly room for much more growth.

The Challenge:
The owners of Green Valley Trading Co. wanted to push their website to the next level by increasing visitor numbers and online sales.
They had an established customer base, but needed the website to feature more prominently on the major search engines in order to bring in a large number of new visitors and potential customers. In addition, they needed to ensure that the maximum number of sales were generated from the visitors that were gained.
Pay-per-click advertising was being used in a very limited way and the owners did not wish to increase their spend on this form of marketing. The increase in sales needed to be generated by improvements in search positions and organic (non-paid) traffic.
The Strategy:
We immediately set to work on enhancing the Green Valley website to ensure that it met the required search engine standards. We incorporated all of the necessary elements to enable it to feature highly on the search engines for related search terms.
At the same time we began to build up the number of quality inbound links from other related websites. This was going to be an essential part of the long-term strategy for success for the website.
Although the budget allocated to advertising on Google Adwords was quite small it was still important to make the maximum use of this. By enhancing the ad campaigns and refocusing them on the best performing keywords we ensured that this money was being put to the best possible use and giving the best return in terms of sales generated.
Over the following months the website's performance was monitored carefully and adjustments made as necessary to ensure that progress was maintained. The results achieved bear testimony to the success of the strategy.
The Results:
In December 2007 the website had 1,361 visitors. A year later, in December 2008, visitor numbers had increased to 3,438. This is a year-on-year increase of 2,077 visitors or 152%.
Of course, success should not be measured purely in terms of visitors gained. After all, this is an e-commerce website and therefore the only figures that really matter are sales. However, the owners of Green Valley tell us that sales figures have increased in line with visitor numbers all the way along the line, with 2008 seeing them achieve their most sales in a calendar year by some considerable margin. Clearly, the strategy employed by Jump 2 IT has been a great success for this client.
Early signs for 2009 are that visitor numbers are continuing to increase. At a time when many companies are experiencing a slow down, this online retailer is going from strength to strength.
