Background:

Blue Moon has been supplying leather jackets and coats for both men and women for over 30 years.

Starting out as a high street shop in Wales, the business developed progressively over the years which eventually led them to creating their own website in order to take advantage of the Internet's huge potential.

The Challenge:

In 2007 Blue Moon decided that they wanted to step away from their existing optimisation company in order to see if they could gain greater success elsewhere.

They came to Jump 2 IT Media with a number of objectives:
1. Improve search engine positions on Google
2. Increase online sales
3. Reduce monthly pay-per-click spend on Google Adwords

Although the site was currently attracting a good level of visitors, the majority of them were entering via Google Adwords, which subsequently meant that Blue Moon were paying out a large amount of their advertising budget each month to Google.

In addition, their search engine positions on sites such as Google were decent at best, whilst they failed to appear in the top 50 places on MSN for any of their targeted terms.

As our initial meeting ended, the company owner stated that he wanted us to make Blue Moon the number 1 online company for leather jackets.

The challenge had been set.


The Strategy:

During the first month we focused heavily on improving the optimisation aspect of the website, as there were numerous issues that were holding the site back.

Once this had been achieved we then we channelled our attention to the keywords that needed to be targeted in order to help attract the company's desired audience.

A list of essential terms was created and subsequently incorporated into the website to ensure that the site would be found on Google, Yahoo, and MSN for any of the related terms that a potential customer might use on the major search engines.

It was also vital that we enhanced Blue Moon's off-site optimisation, and this was achieved by building one-way links into their website from other relevant sites.


The Results:

During just twelve months we have boosted Blue Moon's search engine position and online sales dramatically.

In November 2007, the site received 8,490 visitors via organic search results. However, this figure was increased by almost 100% the following November, when 16,185 organic visitors entered the Blue Moon website.

Overall, 2008 saw 115,611 visitors enter the site via natural search engine positions. This was an improvement of 153.51% when compared to 2007, which saw 45,605 organic visitors.

This improvement was mainly down to the site now being found in 1st position on Google.co.uk for 'Leather Jackets', which was always the main objective. Although massive positional increases for 'Men's Leather Jackets' and 'Women's Leather Jackets' also played a big part in the success that was achieved.

These achievements allowed Blue Moon to pause all advertising on Google Adwords with immediate effect, meaning that the funds usually spent per month on additional advertising could now be saved and put to an even greater use.
